Jamie and Kimba made their way through a coral reef, as Jamie's tail began to flip around on its own. "Looks like your new tail is starting to adjust to your mind! You should give it a spin!" Kimba let go of Jamie as she began to panic. "I can't do this! I know I can't!" Kimba gave her a stern look and a reassuring nod. "C'mon, it's like taking the training wheels off. I know you can do it, your new fish tail has been given a fair amount of time to adjust to your mind. Just give it a whirl and you'll find yourself doing fine!" Jamie gulped and started swishing he big fishy tail around. Like the propeller on a boat, she took things easy at first.

She swam around in circles, but soon found herself able to swim even faster then she ever could before! The more her mind relaxed, the faster she could move! Jamie flung herself through the waters at amazing speeds, as her large tail soon became one with her being. After doing a few laps around the area, she swam back to Kimba. "This is great, Kimba! I've never been able to swim this well before, thank you!" Kimba grinned in response. "You're welcome! The fun of the ocean should be shared with everyone! Now that you can swim, we better head off to our destination!" Kimba sped off with Jamie in quick pursuit. The two travelled very far in a short amount of time, and Jamie was ecstatic at the fact that she was now able to swim! Her hair was whipped around by the motion of the water as her big scaly tail propelled her through the waves.

As much fun as the two mermaids were having, they were soon stopped by an impasse. The two encountered an oil tanker, fortunately for them it wasn't pumping oil that moment. "Ah, geez! It's that other James' stupid oil tanker!" Jamie frowned as she looked up at the large automated monstrosity. "What do we do?" Kimba pressed her finger against her chin as thought about it. "Well, we could just leave it be. Although, James Masters' oil business should not be left alone to continue doing damage. I know most of his workers left due to arguments over payments, but guys like him tend to never give up. Heck, that guy even dumped a bunch of oil in my favorite lake just because local activists were getting up in his grill, this guy has no moral compass." A look of concern formed across Jamie's face. "So, what do we do?"

Kimba smirked as she came up with an idea. "Well, they usually have someone watching the rig at night, and since there are very few workers due to strikes and other business-related things, there's a chance Masters may be on board right now. I say we give him the mermaid treatment!" Jamie looked at her in astonishment. "What are you talking about, Kim? I thought your magic only worked when you used your wand!" She shook her head in response. "Usually, that's the case! However, mermaids are naturally magic creatures so I have access to my spells without even having to use a wand! The average body of a mermaid is a conducting rod for magic! Now, let go see if he's there." Kimba submerged to the water's surface, as Jamie did the same.

Kimba and Jamie slowly stuck their heads out of the water, as Kimba looked around for her quarry. Luckily for her, James Masters happened to be watching the barge that night, and he was fast asleep! Kimba quietly whispered a weaker version of her previous. "Oceanis Scrumptious..." She quietly uttered as a large cloud of smoke enveloped Masters. He woke up just as the smoke covered his body, only for the smoke to quickly dissipate leaving a thrashing mermaid flailing around haplessly on the deck. "Who did that?!" She screamed as she covered her chest. Before Jamie and Kimba could make a run for it, James Masters spotted them. They dived under the water, only for Masters to leap in and follow them.

Luckily for the two girls, Masters could not swim well enough to keep up with them. Still, she was managing to keep up a steady page in following them. "What do we do, Kimba? If he keeps follow, he could be lead back to that awesome mermaid village you mentioned! What if he comes back with his workers once her returns to normal and destroys it?" Kimba shook her head. "Don't' worry, Jamie! I have a plan, just follow my lead!" Kimba lead Jamie through the water, until the two eventually found a large fishing frater stationed over head. Unfortunately for Masters, he did not notice the crater due to being blinded by his own rage.

Kimba and Jamie swam under a large net, a net that unfortunately Masters did not notice. She rammed right into the net, not noticing it at all until it was too late. The former businessman thrashed her large tail around in the net, trying to escape. Her soft delicate flesh rubbed against the ropes uncomfortably as she continued to cover her exposed chest. She screamed for help as the two swam up to her.  "Let me out of this net, you aquatic wenches!" Shouted the former man, as she continued to thrash and flail about. "Well, that's what you get for polluting our ocean, good sir!" The mermaid growled as she tried to fight her way out of the net. "Change me back, or I'll make sure you all pay! I'll dump oil everywhere!" Kimba scoffed and poked Masters' soft little nose. "Listen up, if you ever do this again, I'll make sure this is a permanent change! Luckily, this is a weak version of the spell that will only last a few days! Don't let me catch you in my ocean again!"

Masters scoffed as she crossed her arms and drew silent. "Fine..." Kimba scowled once more before swimming off, Jamie followed in quick pursuit. "Wow, were those legitimate threats, Kimba?" Kimba chuckled as she shook her head. "Nope, I was fooling! Nah, he's not worth the time. Besides, I don't really cast permanent spells anyways. I just did that to teach him a lesson, he'll be back to normal in a few days with a new perspective." Despite that reassurance, James was still a little concerned. "What about fishing crater? Aren't you afraid that he may he get captured and chopped into mermaid sushi bits?"

Kimba shook her head once more. "Nope, those guys that operate the frater are extremely nice. They are some of the nicest guys that operate on these waters, they always toss back every mermaid they catch by accident. In fact, they don't catch many finish period. The oil spills scare most of the little critters off, so they almost end up catching fleeing mermaids and nothing else. I feel bad for the poor guys. Anyway, they'll pull up Masters and feel bad about capturing an innocent mermaid by accident. They'll feed her seaweed and kelp for the next days and keep him inside a fish tank. And by the time he changes back, he'll have to do a lot of explaining to those poor fishermen!"

Jamie suddenly cracked a smile. "Ah, I see! When he changes back, he'll be caught naked in that fish tank by the ship's crew! With that scandal, the remains of his operation will be shut down and the group can start catching fish again!" Kimba nodded. "Yep! Now that that's taken care of, back to our vacation!" The two swam off to a nearby coral reef as Kimba looked around. "They should be coming by this way soon! The girls usually like to scout around for anyone who hasn't heard about the---" Kimba clamps her hands over her mouth. "Oops, almost spoiled the surprise!" Jamie raised her eyebrow as she wondered about the surprise she was referring to. Suddenly, Jamie's thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of giggling. "Hey, Kimmy! Who's your friend?" Jamie turned to find three mermaid floating there smiling at her.

"Oh, this is Jamie! She's not from around here." Jamie blushed and wiggled her fish tail around. "Ooh, where is she from?" Asked a red-head mermaid excitedly. "Well, she's from Canada." The three mermaids screamed as they rushed towards Jamie. Kimba sighed and watched as the girls poked and prodded her, playing with her tail, feeling her scales and even sniffing her. "She feels like a Canadian Mermaid, and definitely smells like one!" The girls continued to inspect Jamie as she felt somewhat flustered by the turn of events. "This one must be from Saskatchewan, judging by the smell! Jeez, they don't even have big seashells up there, she must walk around practically naked!" Jamie's eyes opened wide, as she wondered how these mermaids could possible know she hailed from Saskatchewan! "Alright, that's enough girls!" Shouted Kimba as she placed her hands on her hips. "You're making her feel uncomfortable!" The mermaids listened to Kimba and backed off. "Oh, sorry! It's just, we usually don't meet many mermaids outside our own waters! Anyway, you're bringing her to the Fish Festival right?" Kimba nodded as Jamie let out a confused grunt. "Ooh, she'll be perfect! I'm glad you brought her!" Said one of the mermaids, as the three of them swam off leaving Jamie and Kimba alone in the reef. "Um... What was that? What's the Fish Festival? And why am I "Perfect" for it?" Kimba smiled as she swam up and rustled Jamie's hair. "Well, the Fish Festival is just as it sounds. It's an underwater festival for fish and mermaids, full of fun, frolicking and games. As for why you're perfect for it, well... I'll tell you when we get there!"

Jamie rolled her eyes, but was no doubt curious as to what Kimba had in mind for her at the Fish Festival. The two took off for the festival right away, as they entered the mermaid town and marveled at all the majestic scenery. Large constructs of coral were arranged in areas to look like streets filled with houses. Jamie spotted various mermaid sitting, playing, and even sleeping inside these constructs. Kimba and Jamie continued on and started finding various performers hanging around the area. As Kimba and Jamie ventured down the avenue, various mermaids came out to sniff, poke, and prod at Jamie once more. Once Jamie and Kimba reached a less-populated street Jamie decided to ask Kimba about it.  "Hey, Kimba? Why are all these mermaids sniffing and poking me? It's pretty weird..." Kimba turned to Jamie and looked her directly in the eyes. "Well, these mermaids are different then the depictions you know of. Yes, they have human-level intellect but they don't spend a lot of time around humans. They were raised underwater, and they were mainly imprinted upon by fish sea-mammals. Even though they have the capacity to think and act like humans, they tend to be fairly animal-like when it comes to mannerisms and personality. Most of the mermaids in this part of the ocean have really good senses of smell, which is why they can tell where we hail from just by sniffing us."

Jamie rubbed her shoulder as she looked downwards with a sad look on her face. "Well, it's still weird..." Kimba gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, they did the same thing to me when I first came here. They do that to all outsiders. I remember the first time coming here they sniffed so much that I thought they were preparing to eat me! Luckily, it's more of an initiation type of thing. Now, let's get going to the Fish Festival!" Kimba swam off with Jamie in pursuit. They finally reached the center of the fair and swam around all the attractions. The two made it to a large stage made out of solid stone, where various mermaids were sitting on large rocks. Each mermaid was beautiful and wore a green dress made out of kelp and seaweed, that had been manufactured into loose-fitting green fabric. These green dresses were accented with various rainbow colored shells. Each of the mermaids wore a dress that covered their torsos, but not their tails. They waved at everyone passing by as they smiled and looked pretty. "Uh... What's with the dresses and who are these women? I thought you said they don't think like humans."

"I said they don't like humans, I never said they don't act like them. These are the Shell Sirens, each year the village choose eight of these beauties to go up on stage for the village! It's not really a beauty contest, more of a show of dominance. All of the males have migrated away during mating season, leaving primarily the females who like to show off during this festival. Eight mermaids are chosen and placed on stage to look pretty in front of all the rabble." Jamie counted the women and found there was only seven. That's when she started to understand. She turned to Kimba who was smiling. "Kimba! Tell me you didn't!" Kimba sighed in response. "Sorry, Jamie. You have to be the one up on stage, I can't. You see, mermaids operate on a caste system, this is shown by the color of the scales on a mermaid's tail. Red-tailed mermaids like myself are considered commoners and green-tailed mermaids like you are considered upper-class. Whenever I transform myself using my magic, I can only become a red-tailed mermaid. However, I found that I could turn other people into green-tailed ones. I normally perform the spell on that person I usually swim up here with, but she couldn't make it. I'm sorry I didn't tell you all of it, but I need you aid us in this endeavor. And honestly, this will really help the village if you participate in this."

Jamie sighed, she came this far so she couldn't say no. She didn't know how this would help the village, but she did want to pay Kimba back for the room and board. To her, this felt like a good way to settle her debt. A red-tailed mermaids swam up and escorted Jamie to a nearby coral reef. After fitting her with the dress, she was brought back to the stage. Jamie reluctantly sat on a large stone rock in the middle of the stage. Her scales chafed against the rock, as she was forced to awkwardly wave to everyone. She sat there and acted cute, which annoyed her greatly. Even Kimba felt bad, but she was usually forced to bring a green-tailed mermaid as part of the event as she was considered an outsider and a lower-caste mermaid. As such, she wasn't really allowed to complain or talk her friend out of it.  After the awkward night of waving and smiling was done, Jamie removed the kelp-seaweed dress and went back to see Kimba.

"Well, that happened. I am so embarrassed..."Said Jamie as she blushed. Kimba gave her an apologetic smile. "Sorry, I should've said something, but I had a feeling that you may have said no." Jamie grinned and shook her head. "Are you kidding? I love surprises like that! Sure, it was embarrassing and weird, but I had more fun then I would on a regular vacation!" Kimba nodded and then prepared to swim away. "You like surprises, huh? I got one last one, if you're game!" Jamie nodded as Kimba lead her to an area just outside of town. This area was astonishingly beautiful, it was a giant forest made out of rainbow coral. "What is this place?" Jamie asked as she gazed around at the beautiful coral. "This is the rainbow coral forest, our home for the next week! It's beautiful, pristine, and very nice! I know the perfect clearing too!"

Kimba lead Jamie to an area in the middle of the coral forest that was filled with large clams. The clams were arranged almost like beds, and various pearl dotted the coral trees nearby. "Wow, this is amazing!" Shouted Jamie as she marvelled at the area. "And it wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you, Jamie!" Jamie's eyes widened as she looked at Kimba. "Excuse me?" Kimba took a deep breath, "Well, this forest only springs up during the Fish Festival. Eight higher-class  mermaids have to be on the main-stage though, and having eight at a time in one area is a rarity. They are born very rarely, heck even yellow-tailed mermaids which represent royalty are larger in number then they are. That's why green-tails serve such importance to the mermaids dwelling here. And due to the fact that green-tailed mermaids will sometimes disappear or run away before the festival comes around, we are sometimes short on them like this year and the last few. Luckily, you saved this year's festival! The power of eight mermaids on that stage caused the coral to grow again." Jamie felt somewhat accomplished by this fact, she quickly grew arrogant and tilted her head up. "Well, as a guy I'm known for tilting the scales, but as a mermaid I find that I can tilt my scales even further!" Kimba swam behind Jamie and smacked her scaly tail playfully. "You goof, what did I tell you about the machismo?" Jamie giggled, "Oh, zip it, you!" The two played in the coral forest as Jamie and Kimba felt accomplished by what they had done today. Kimba got to put that oil tycoon in his place, and Jamie took place in a show that rebuilt a special magical forest for the inhabitants. It was a successful vacation so far, and it was only just beginning!
Yep, part 2 is now up and ready! Featuring me and :iconkimbawest: as mermaids! After transforming us into mermaids, Kimba and I run a fowl of a greedy oil tycoon and take him a fishy lesson, before heading off to a festival in mermaid village! Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think! I'll just sit here and wait in the pool while flipping my mermaid tail around. :)
